Special Bucconeer Guest Project Plans
by Michael Nelson

Prompted by a project idea submitted by Stanley Schmidt, we have asked all our guests for their own possible project ideas. These projects would be events or exhibits to be staged during Bucconeer.

Stan is organizing The Analog Mafia* Ragtime Band to perform at Bucconeer. The band would include such folk as Michael Flynn on clarinet and/or bass clarinet, Julia Ecklar on trombone, Steve Gillett on keyboard, Stan on trumpet, and so forth. Their repertoire would not be limited to ragtime (they just like the name). They might, for instance, include a piece written by Stan that was indirectly inspired by Aussiecon Two, the 1985 Worldcon in Australia.

Our other guests are still thinking about their possible projects. Charles Sheffield assumes that his project will involve space science or pirates in some manner. Perhaps he can lead the band of pirates planning to capture the USS Constellation in the name of our Pirate Queen.

Don Maitz, LoneStarCon2's Artist GoH, has suggested that we involve Michael Whelan in a pirate artwork exhibit. Don just happens to have a few pieces he could enter (since he did the original illustration of Captain Morgan for Captain Morgan's Rum).

Milt Rothman writes a quarterly column entitled Reality Check for Skeptical Briefs, published by the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal. His column deals with pseudo-science in all its loony aspects. In recent months he has been hunting down many of the aberrant ideas floating around the Internet. I, myself, see potential in an exhibit displaying some of this wacky pseudo-science.

In Broadside Three, I shall present a report on some of our Special Projects Team's ideas and provide updates on the plans of our guests. If you have any suggestions or resources for projects at Bucconeer, please send your proposal to our Special Projects Team.
