2001 Worldcon Bids

Boston and Philadelphia are bidding to be the site for the first Worldcon of the new millennium. Their joint nightmare is that a bunch of pirates are running the voting process in 1998.

Boston in 2001 has had a successful bidding year including lighting up the night at L.A.con III (see the pictures at http://world.std.com/~sbarsky/party.html). We plan to throw parties and/or sit at a bidding table at Arisia, Boskone, Balticon, Disclave, Midwestcon, Westercon, Lone-StarCon 2, OryCon and Philcon (and others) in 1997. For up-to-date news on our bid, including information on our meetings, please visit http://world.std.com/~sbarsky/b2001.html.

PHIL2001@netaxs.com

Have you picked up your latest Philadelphia in 2001 postcard? If you've collected 20 postcards by the time Philadelphia in 2001 wins the vote in 1998, you will receive a free conversion from supporting to attending membership, provided you vote for the site selection. These postcards feature artwork by various professional and fan artists and are fun to collect, just for the illustrations. So stop by one of our bid tables or parties, become a presupporter, and pick up the most recent postcard; or buy a prior issue. And while you're there, take a look at our other great items, such as t-shirts, book bags, and pins, or just sit and smof for a while. We're Fan Friendly!

Beyond 2003 and Hoax Bids

Some fans from the Country Formerly Known As the Soviet Union are running a bid for 2017. Visit http://worldcon.org to find links to information on the standing Worldcons and many of the bids. Here's a partial list of the many hoax bids formed as an excuse to throw great parties.

The next Worldcon and Worldcon/NASFiC Bid News column will appear in Broadside Three. Please send submissions before March 31, 1997.

The deadline to reserve space for ads in our second progress report is May 31, 1997. All ads must be received by June 30, 1997. Bucconeer offers a half-page credit to all legitimate Worldcon bid committees and a full-page credit to all seated Worldcons.
